Performing a Cone Beam (CB) CT Scan
A CBCT scan provides an extremely precise 3D image of various structures, including the position of nerves, the placement of teeth within the jaw, inflammation, the available bone volume for dental implants, and potential causes of unexplained pain. Compared to standard X-rays, a CBCT scan offers a more detailed view of the area being examined. For certain surgical procedures, this advanced digital imaging allows for more precise planning of oral and maxillofacial surgeries. The images are digitally processed, enabling the oral surgeon to assess your jaw in detail before the procedure and determine the necessary surgical approach.
How Does a CBCT Scan Work?
A CBCT scan is completely painless and takes only a few minutes. You will stand in front of the X-ray machine, holding onto two handles to stay still. Our assistant will ensure you are comfortably positioned and will ask you to place your chin on a support. The scanner then rotates around your head in a circular motion, capturing images in less than 10 seconds. Before the actual scan, a preliminary image is taken.
At Kaakchirurgie Zuidas, we use the Vatech Green X18, an innovative and advanced imaging device for CBCT scans. We specifically chose Vatech because of its ability to produce high-quality images with significantly lower radiation exposure, making it a safer option for our patients.
Despite its low radiation dose, the Vatech Green X18 delivers sharp and detailed 3D images, which are essential for accurate diagnostics and precise surgical planning.
Costs of a CBCT Scan
The cost of a CBCT scan is partially covered by most health insurance providers, depending on your deductible. We recommend that you contact your insurance company in advance for more details on reimbursement options.
